There is already so much investment in the windows ecosystem that Microsoft and other players would upgrade it to a superior system. There can be minor changes in market share but the system has already evolved so much. With such huge consumer base, they will have a lot of chances to improve and eventually they will improve.
It is highly unlikely that it will be lost.
